Community Heroes – Ed Brown

As an artist from the Fort Greene neighborhood of Brooklyn, I had the incredible opportunity to be part of a project that truly celebrates the spirit and impact of our local heroes. The Community Heroes project, in collaboration with Photoville and Trellis, shines a spotlight on individuals who strengthen and uplift our neighborhoods. My role was to photograph Ed Brown, a lifelong Fort Greene resident and a true pillar of change, capturing his essence and the significant impact he’s had on our community.

Having grown up in Fort Greene, I feel a deep connection to its culture and history, something I strive to bring out in my photography. This project was particularly close to my heart, allowing me to showcase not just Ed’s contributions but also the vibrant spirit of our neighborhood. It was a fantastic way to honor his achievements and inspire others in our community to get involved and make a difference.

The Community Heroes initiative is a wonderful way for artists like myself to connect with our communities in meaningful ways. Through public art and storytelling, we celebrate the heroes among us and encourage our neighbors to listen, participate, and advocate for a better community together. Working with Photoville and Trellis has been a great experience, highlighting the importance of visual storytelling in celebrating community strength and solidarity.
